About Us

BERITA HARIAN, the top draw, widely read and influential mainstream newspaper in Malaysia is committed in its effort towards building a world class human capital. Towards this end, ever since its inception in 1957 BERITA HARIAN have continually focused on education.

That education was given top priority as a genre, was clearly evident in the setting up of Newspaper in Education Unit (ADD) in 1985. Conviction in its strength and sphere of influence grew, and in 1999 it was fortified further to become a full Education Unit or UPEN.

BERITA HARIAN was the first mainstream newspaper to pioneer the Newspaper in Education concept. It was also the first to introduce three education pullouts to cater for candidates sitting for the UPSR, PMR and SPM examinations. Other newspapers followed suit but BERITA HARIAN remained the top gun in this field.

That BERITA HARIAN was able to maintain its niche spot despite fierce competition from rivals, was largely due to its close rapport and networking with the Ministry of Education through the concept of 'Cooperation in Education' (Permuafakatan Pendidikan).

The primary functions of Education in BERITA HARIAN are:

  • Source of effective learning and teaching (P&P)
  • Linkage between the classroom and the world - Newspaper in Education (ADD)
  • Provider of excellent examination tips via DIDIK, MINDA and SKOR (DMS)
  • Organiser of preparatory examination clinics, workshops and seminars for UPSR, PMR and SPM.

BERITA HARIAN will continue to keep up with the ever-changing pace of the information and communication technology (ICT). This is clearly evident in the introduction of its web page, www.guru.net.my that we envisage will become the leading teaching and learning field in the cyber world.
